Toyon Gardens

Gardena, CA

Toyon Gardens is 79 units of permanent supportive and low income housing located in Gardena, CA. The project consists of two double-loaded wings of studio, one and two-bedroom apartments. Each bay is rotated 20 degrees giving the building its distinctive form. This “sawtooth” profile increases privacy between units and allows the building volume to act as a series of large vertical sun shades. The resulting courtyard is open to both the east and west promoting breezes and extending views out over the mostly single level surrounding structures. Construction begins in April of 2025.
